About Medicare Mental Health Centres
Medicare Mental Health Centres provide a welcoming space for anyone to access free and confidential mental health, social and emotional wellbeing support. Centres are staffed by qualified professionals and people with lived experience of mental ill health. They will take the time to listen, understand, and provide guidance that is specific to your needs.
The Centres offer immediate support for people in distress, including their family and carers. No referral, appointment or Mental Health Treatment Plan is needed. You don’t need to be an Australian citizen to access support.
Medicare Mental Health Centres are not a crisis service. If you need urgent help, call 000 or access crisis support services.
How Centres can help
- free, short-to-medium term care
- help connecting with ongoing or longer-term free or low-cost support that aligns with your needs and goals
- help connecting with other services to support you into the future, from health to mental health, and social supports like housing and employment.
Your privacy will be respected
If you consent, we can share all or parts of any advice and plans with your GP or other health care providers. If you prefer not to share this information with your current health providers, that is fine as well.

If you need mental health support in your language, Medicare Mental Health Centres have access to the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National). Centres will support people to contact TIS when they need it to assist consumers to communicate with centre staff.
